A Scar Away from Falling Apart [ CLOSED ]
« Thread Started on May 21, 2007, 1:37pm »

Lori opened the door to the ballroom slowly, peeking her head to see if anyone was there already. Nope. Empty, perfect. She opened the door a little more and slipped inside, closing it behind her. She knew she couldn't be the only one with a fascination for this place. Not just the ballroom, but the whole castle. She could still remember how overwhelmed she was in her first year when she got her first glimpse of the castle reflecting in the lake. It was beautiful. Lori's always had a weak spot for old castles and whatnot. Her third year was pretty much spent exploring the entire castle and she could tell you where everything was. She knew every secret passage, every shortcut. But the ballroom was still her favorite room. It was big, but the tapestries along the walls and the fireplace in the center of the largest wall were just breathtaking. Lori smiled to herself and ran her hand along the molding, following its path a little way along the wall. There was also the piano. She could play well, but not amazing and she did mess up every once in a while. It was so hard for her to play in front of people. But, no one was here. Lori took a seat on the bench and put her fingers on the keys, playing instinctively.

where you are the one, the one that lies close to me

i fell in love, in love with you suddenly
now there's no place else i can be but here in your arms

You might be asking yourself; why was Mikey Lynch in the ballroom? People had alway said he was a little on the odd side, but that still wasn't a decent excuse to be hanging around this place. He wasn't exactly in the best attire to be dancing around hard-wood floor, um, elegantly; in his tight black jeans and his heartbreaker shirt, also tight, with his white studded belt. Right now though, he just wanted to get away from people. Okay, not people in general, but just those really annoying people that didn't know when to stop talking. Of course, Mikey would never tell them to shut-up, or even just to keep it down, because Mikey was Mikey, and bottled up all of his emotions, always. He always got distracted easily, but when he went to the library in search of a book or two, he expected all distractions to be gone. You just didn't find all the troublemakers and loudmouths in a place lined with shelves of - books.

He had been in an isle of the library, scanning titles of books on their spines, while his hands remained shoved in his pockets. He grabbed one that seemed slightly interesting about some poisonous creature. That could be very useful, especially with what was about to happen. He grabbed the book off the shelf and took it over to a small table in the far corner of the room. He opened the cover, and flipped through the pages, leaning back in the chair and rocking back and forth. He was comfortable, but that was before a group of Slytherins walked in. Yeah, Slytherins. It was just - great. They came in laughing hysterically, punching each other in the shoulder and talking about worthless things. Without even looking at the books, they sat down at a table near Mikey's, continuing their conversations.

People could be so rude these days, which made Mikey sound really old. He closed his book and quietly slipped out of the library, giving a dirty look to the group of stupid - people. Well, it was the best insult he could come up with at the time. Instead of wandering around the halls, he decided to go to the ballroom. Why? Because it was quiet, and most people didn't think to find Mikey in a place like that. Meaning, it was perfect, but then again, the library was supposedly a sanctuary for peace and quiet. Lies, lies, lies. Anyway, he came into the ballroom, his feet hitting against the wood, and took a seat against the wall in a dark corner. He leaned his head against the wall and swiped his hair across his face, closing his eyes and just - sitting there, and it actually wasn't what he expected. It was - boring.

That was when he heard the doors open and a familiar face walked in. Apparently she hadn't noticed him sitting on the floor, not that he expected much. He watched her for a few minutes as she went over to the piano before finally pushing himself off the floor and quietly creeping up behind her. He looked over her shoulder, just watching her fingers dance across the keys, before leaning in and whispering. "Boo."

Lori smiled, she knew that voice anywhere. She turned in her seat to see Mikey. "Warn me next time," She said, taking her fingers off the keys. "How long have you been in here?" Lori asked curiously. It was weird, she hadn't seen Mikey in a while and now here he was, popping up behind her in the middle of the ballroom. Interesting. She really missed talking to him, they had so much fun together. Lori couldn't stand the girls in her dorm, you'd think Ravenclaws would be nice but they were just preppier than all the others. They were less snobby than the Slytherin girls, but still. Preps. Which is why Lori has a lot of guy friends, and also why her girl friends are in Slytherin.

Mikey gave a deep, soft, chuckle whilst he took a seat next to her on the piano bench, his eyes scanning the black and white keys. If there was one superpower he would wish for, it would be to be as talented as some people were when it came to instruments. He had had guitar lessons when he was younger, but he had to admit that when he was younger he was a total wimp, and when his fingers began to turn numb and sore after every lesson, he soon gave up. Yeah, Mikey Lynch the pansy. Even when they were at recess back in his elementary schools, someone would kick sand at him, and he would sit Indian style and cry his eyes out until one of the teachers came over to give him a hug and pat his back. That, was one of the main reasons he never played with kids his age back in the muggle world and stuck to himself. He never talked much, but that had all changed when he came to Hogwarts. He soon broke out of his shell to become the hyperactive boy you see today.

Everyone acted so surprised when he popped out of random places, when he didn't think it was that surprising. He never exactly hid from the rest of the world, he just remained quiet and watched people. That sounded a little stalkerish, but he liked to see what people did when they thought no one was looking. Sometimes, it was funny, sometimes it was just plain creepy. Though, if he watched other people, there was bound to be someone that watched him. He moved his legs back and forth as he slid his fingers up and down the piano. Maybe if he focused hard enough, he'd suddenly have the ability to play like, one of those famous dead composer guys. Of course, he'd probably have to know one of their names to be able to even begin to play like them. That was why he tended to just stick with his rock music, trying his best to avoid the classical stuff.

Mikey fiddled with his snake bites, twisting them this way and that before leaning back a little in the bench. "Long enough to hear that you're an amazing pianist. Never pictured a girl with pink hair to play like that." He complimented.

"Why thank you. I used to take lessons, but I usually don't play in front of people," She said with a shrug. Looking at the keys brought back so many memories for her, good and bad. She remembered a recital from when she was six, she'd been practicing for months for that recital and just totally blew it on stage. Lori looked out at the audience, saw her parents and her little sister, and then looked out at everyone else. There wasn't really a lot of people there, looking back on it. It was just the parents of other kids playing that night, but it had apparently been too much for little Lori. She burst into tears and ran off the stage. She couldn't remember anything after that. She'd always been talented, ever since she'd first started. She never wanted to mess up though and had the worst case of stagefright she knew. Now, you would never believe it, but people change. She's matured, but she'll still avoid playing in front of crowds. It's kind of ironic that a girl with pink hair and insane fashion sense would care so much what people think about her playing piano. It's different though, showing off talent is much different than just dying your hair. That she knew.
